FAQs

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a physical fitness system that uses spring-based equipment to develop physical strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, good posture and improves the mind body connection.

I’m new to Pilates. What is the best way to begin?

We suggest taking private lessons first. Pilates has many different components to it that require some explanation. When you are in a one-on-one private lesson, it creates a stable foundation for the understanding of the material. A private lesson can also give you the opportunity to learn specifics for your body that you would not know if you chose to go right into a group class.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing normal workout clothes. You want to be able to move comfortably and we find that fitted clothing is best. Men, please wear tight athletic shorts under your workout shorts.

Parking?

There is free parking behind our building and on Bard. Street. There is also metered parking along Pier Ave.

Why should I try Pilates Place?

There are many incredible studios in the South Bay area, but at Pilates Place Hermosa Beach we believe we provide the best overall experience for our clients. We take pride in our well-kept studio in the heart of Hermosa Beach, our instructors have all completed 1000+ hours of training and our studio reputation has withheld great standings for the past 7 years.

How often should I do Pilates?

Sticking to a schedule is usually best. We suggest 2-3 times a week to reach your ideal goals. However, if once a week is your maximum you will still reap many benefits.

How fast will I see results in my body?

To truly get fast results you must stick with it. Pilates is a lifestyle choice. In Joseph Pilates words, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body.”

I’m Pregnant. Is Pilates good for me?

It is always best to talk to your doctor before doing any physical activity during your pregnancy. It is also best to have some experience with Pilates before your pregnancy so you can adjust and make modifications to your body during the pregnancy. All of our instructors with children did Pilates during their pregnancy and it helped with the process.

I’m an athlete. Will Pilates help my sport?

Pilates is designed to create a uniformly developed body. It will find your weakness and strengthen it quickly. Many professional athletes have turned to Pilates to strengthen the muscles that they can’t seem to find.

What are Pilates Place’s Studio Policies?

All sessions and classes are by appointment only. We do not take walk in clients. Shoes must be left in designated shoe area. Socks are acceptable but not encouraged for safety purposes. Different packages have different expiration dates, please ask your instructor for details.  ALL CANCELATIONS MUST BE MADE 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE TO AVOID BEING CHARGED THE FULL PRICE OF YOUR SERVICE.

All of our payments for privates, semi-privates and classes are non-refundable and payment is expected at the time of your visit. We do not take insurance as a payment form.

How do I become a certified Pilates Instructor?

There is no patent on “Pilates.” Therefore, anyone can technically call themselves a Pilates instructor with no legitimate training. To become a qualified, certified Pilates Instructor you can go through training programs all across the U.S. We suggest places such as: The Pilates Center at Boulder, Pilates Institute of Southern California and Vintage Pilates.
